Depth Survey Report Check List
Basic Report Information
  1. Check investigation date for consistency in reporting. Multiple reports investigated on the same day by the same observer should be questioned.
  2. Check if chart number, edition and date reflect the most recent chart information.
  3. Check if time and mileage seem reasonable for the items being reported.
  4. Check if time and mileage appear consistent if multiple reports are investigated the same day or are they duplications.
  5. Check to make sure the report falls in the proper category.
  6. Check for correct Adopt-A-Chart designation.
  7. Read any comments to see if clarification is provided.
Specific Report Information
  1. Since the majority of the fields are required information that must be filled check the items for the proper minimum number required and proper formatting.
  2. Make sure the information included references the most current edition.
  3. Any position data should be checked on the appropriate chart to insure no typographic or transposition errors have occurred.
  4. Verify appropriate DepthWiz file has been included.
  5. The DepthWiz file should be run through the “Checker” program to find errors.
  6. Check critical line items D11 through D27 and line items G50 through G53.
Supporting Information
Check to make sure the chart image is from the latest edition published.
The chart image shall include the following minimum information:
  1. Support item designation. IE: “Support Item A”.
  2. Chart number or designation.
  3. Current edition date.
  4. Current chart date properly indicated. This should match the format in the report data.
  5. Report ID number.
In addition to the minimum items required to be on the chart image, the chart should checked for clarity. Items to checked:
  1. Make sure the chart image is readable.
  2. Check that sounding readings do not overlap.
  3. Check to insure all soundings plotted are within water boundaries.
  4. Check that all sounding numbers are legible.
  5. Check for any questionable soundings.
  6. Check for possible areas that may require a re-survey.
Other supporting information shall include the following minimum information:
  1. Support item designation. IE: “Support Item B”.
  2. Report ID number.
Support items should be checked to see that the numbered items match the numbers indicated on the chart section. For example, does support item B-1 support item A-1 as shown on the chart? This concept should be followed on all other supporting information.Upon completion of the review of a Depth Survey report by the Area Representative, the Area Rep shall notify the designated National Committee member that the review has been completed and the report is available for his final check. This must be done prior to the Area Representative passing the report to NOS. The designated National Committee member upon completion of a satisfactory review notify the appropriate Area Rep to forward the report to NOS.
